BURGER PORN :

Those of you that have already seen the animated classic (at www.4food.com then click on about4food) know that 4food was born with the goal to de-junk fast food, using fresh quality ingredients from ethical sources with real cooking techniques and in responsible portion sizes. The clip features the head of product development for a major fast food chain who proudly spins the tale of their latest product success, the OgreBurger, weighing in at 1420 calories, and which when bundled with medium fries and soda exceeded an adult male’s recommended daily caloric intake, contained double the recommended daily allowance of saturated fats, and more than a day's worth of sodium.

Last week's Time Out New York featured the 20 best new burgers in Gotham City. We were immediately struck by how similar they looked - towering monstrosities, so big and overwrought as to be structurally unstable, and almost impossible to fit in the human mouth without contortion. By way of example, Coppelia’s Frita Cubana is apparently a “jaw-stretching stack” while Saxon + Parole apparently “pimps it out with plenty of upmarket tweaks”. Nor do these caloric superheavyweights easily fit in one stomach - couple a Wisconsin Buttery Steakburger with a large Bacon Cheese Fries and a Large Cookies ‘n Cream Milkshake at Steak ‘n Shake, and you’ve mainlined 2,720 calories, 137% of your recommended daily fat intake, and preserved your gut for posterity in salt.

On the other hand you could invest in a 240 calorie salmon patty Catch Me If You Can with a 260 calorie Roasted Root Potatoes and a 176 calorie Green Smoothie at 4food and carry a lighter yet more energizing load on your hustle.

ON THE BUILDBOARD CHART/CHARTBEAT :

In chart action this week, JFAVUZZA’S Multigrain-Turkey-Spinach & Garlic-Avocado-Goat Cheese-Lettuce-Pickles-Hummus-Tzatziki Better Turkey Burger regains sole possession of first place on the heels of a 42% sales boost, as Angela’s Veggie by ANGELA1126 drops back from #1 to #4 despite an increase of 10%. AHARRIS’S resurgent CaliBurger takes #2 growing its audience an improbable (but audited) 78%, chased by RODGERSMG’S MGR Lamb Burger which muscles up 43% on Platinum Award hype. NEWMANRA’S Cali4nication, ANTYSON’S eulogy to “his messiness” Charlie Sheen #winning burger, and ERICA’S autobiographical Erica tread water at #5, #6, & #7, followed by KAMITERA’S minimalist Bento Box Burger at #8. #CaseOfTheMondays at #9, by 4food burgermatrix MISS KHAHLIDRA has not been helped by brand confusion with DNE’S similarly branded Case of the Mondays. There’s a posse of 6 new entries tied at #10 this week, seeking chart glory: Popoye Spinach Burger, a beef patty fairy tale by TESPASS; Spicy Veggie, told like it is by PURPLSPLASH; Pesto Pepper Burger, a beefy encounter with MAGESS; DOSHEA133’S deliriously named, pressed rice bun and turkey Turkmenian Rhapsody gluten free; GEORGE.E.THOMAS.JR’S What'd you call me, another turkey burger looking to emulate Better Turkey Burger’s success; and MMONTALBAN’S Salmon Rissotto, which is a perfect name as it tells it like it is.
