FRIDAY JULY 20TH IS DE-JUNK FOOD DAY

To disrupt National Junk Food Day (July 21), and draw attention to the fast food powered national epidemic that has caused obesity to double over the past two decades, 4food and a number of nutrition-forward food brands have anointed Friday, July 20th the first ever De-Junk Food Day.
Between 11AM-2PM on De-Junk Food Day, the iPad station at our 286 Madison Avenue flagship location will be transformed into the De-Junk Snack Bar, a sanctuary of snacking sanity. Here 4foodies will be treated to complimentary 4food Smoothies, and amazing treats from Peeled Snacks, Little Duck Organics, Kopali Chocolates, Acme Smoked Fish, Popchips, and Vermont Smoke & Cure.
“National Junk Food Day on July 21st celebrates and perpetuates the gratuitous consumption of over processed snacks with little to no nutritional value. Given the staggering junk-fueled increase in Type-2 diabetes, obesity, and other diet related diseases that plague our kids and cost our junk food nation more than $150 billion a year, National Junk Food Day is also in extremely bad taste. To protest National Junk Food Day, and provide an alternative, we have declared July 20th De-Junk Food Day. On Friday 4food will host a group of nutritionally responsible partners committed to raising awareness of nutritionally sound food choices and to promoting healthy snacks in the market place…” commented Khahlidra Levister, 4food’s Executive Vice President, and organizer of De-Junk Food Day.

ON THE CHART/CHARTBEAT: HERE COMES THE BEEF
The story this week is that Veggie’s short run as the bestselling protein on the Buildboard Chart has come to an abrupt end after one chart-week, humbled by a new wave of beef.  Still sitting pretty at the peak is the sole remaining veggie (W)holeburger on the chart, Angela1126’S Multigrain-Veggie-Spinach & Garlic-Avocado-Lettuce-Tomato-Barbeque-Hummus Angela’s Veggie 2, which has a 28% sales lead over JFAVUZZA’S Better Turkey Burger, which leaps 5 places to #2 on a 220% increase in sales, and is this week’s Greatest Gainer. Last week’s Greatest Gainer, JANINEDM’S Burger De La Hoya, continues its impressive progress up the rankings, skipping two spots to #3 on a 71% spike in sales, trailed by AHARRIS’S slumping CaliBurger at #4. MSHEPPARD’S super-heavyweight, super-patriotic, or is that super-satirical, 744 calorie Brioche-Beef-Mofongo-Pancetta Bacon-Bleu Cheese-Barbeque-Chipotle Pepper red white and bleu is the first of 4 new entries this week at #5. red white and bleu should be considered a treat and not a habit as it supplies 50% of an adult male’s recommended daily fat and 44% of the sodium. The Multigrain-Pork-Braised Fennel-Pancetta Bacon-Mozzarella-Onion-Tomato-Garlic Mayonnaise Jamoke Burger is the highest grossing of the five builds knotted at #6. It is a bit of a departure for the illustrious BREADSTICK being a porker and not a bird. Given that jamoke means “a clumsy loser who is incapable of doing normal human tasks” we were wondering who the burger is dedicated to - tweet your guesses to @4foodnyc to win 4food$20! MSHEPPARD’S better blues burger and NEWMANRA’S re-entering Cali4nication are a few dollars short of Jamoke Burger and a few dollars ahead of 2 new entries from JHATCH, a prolific burger-builder who specializes in person-burgers; and whose Multigrain-Beef-Pancetta Bacon-Cheddar-Ketchup Brett and Brioche-Beef-Cheddar & Scallion Grits-   Onion-Tomato Danielle are variations on previous builds named Andrew, Greg, Jeff, and Laura. Bubbling under the chart is the Mary J’s Crushed (and completely out of touch) burger, which was inspired by her Burger King mis-adventures. Buy one of these in the month of July and we’ll donate a buck to The Leadership Conference.
