Pumping pumpernickel / here’s the beef:

Beef answered last week’s “where’s the beef” call to action, magnificently increasing its share from 30.8% to 49.2% fueled by two new chart entries, and at the expense of Turkey which falls 9% to 27.1%, Veggie which slides 31.9%, Lamb which tumbles 48.6%, and Salmon which skids 49.%. On the bun side of the (W)holeburger equation, Brioche rises 32.2% and is now the wrap of 40.7% of the charting burgers, dragged along by the tide of back-to-beef conservatism, and snatching shares from Pressed Rice which free-falls 76.5% thus leaving the sushi-rice marvel limping along with 3.4% of sales.

Pressed Rice’s plight does not compare to that of Pumpernickel, a delicious and nutritious and molasses-sweetened wheat/rye sour bread, which has never been part of a chart discussion as it has never made its way into a charting build. One reason might be the origin of the word from Pumpen, a German synonym for flatulent, and Nickel, a form of the name Nicholas commonly associated with the devil. Hence, pumpernickel literally means the "devil's fart".

To encourage devil’s flatulence we are doubling the $4food rebate from 25 to 50 cents for any burger built on a Pumpernickel foundation through April 30th.

ON THE Chart/Chartbeat:
Pugilists, Monsters, and Sympathy for the Devil

Spring has ushered in a new crop of contenders, but the top of the chart has a familiar look as  AHARRIS’S Brioche-Beef-Avocado & Chili Mango-Avocado-Manchego-Lettuce-Tomato-Mustard CaliBurger snatches the #1 spot back from JFAVUZZA’S Better Turkey Burger at #2 riding a 47% spike in sales. The fun really starts at #3 where JANINEDM’S 715-calorie heavyweight, the Multigrain-Beef-Potato Chorizo Hash-Pancetta Bacon-Cheddar-Tomato-Chipotle Pepper-Guacamole Burger De La Hoya, delivers a right-cross from nowhere to send NEWMANRA’S Cali4nication and Angela1126’S Angela’s Veggie reeling to #4 where, clutching the ropes, they are tied for the 3rd week in succession. ANTYSON’S eulogy to “his messiness” Charlie Sheen #winning burger sulks at #6 looking for a way up and out. At #7 is ron’s monster, the second new entry on the Buildboard Chart this week. This Brioche-Beef-Mac & Cheese-Avocado-Cheddar-Lettuce-Tomato-Garlic Mayonnaise-Ketchup 616-calorie middleweight is named for a mysterious investor/adventurer from Lake Forest, Michigan by Adthelad. Counter intuitively, given the spring in our step, RODGERSMG’S MGR Lamb Burger needs a little shepherding as a 58% sales decrease sends it tumbling from #5 to #8. ERICA’S Erica f-f-fades two places to #9, followed by mmontalban’s Salmon Rissotto and MISSKHAHLIDRA’S #CaseOfTheMondays which are knotted at #10 - though Salmon Rissotto (which at $9.50 is the highest priced burger on the chart) wins the tiebreak as the higher grossing of the two.
